INTRODUCTION

She is popularly known as Funke Akindele a.k.a JENIFA, she recently boost her popularity by winning the best actress in a leading role in the African Movie Academy Award with her popular record breaking movie JENIFA.

EARLY LIFE AND BACKGROUND

Funke Akindele worked in television before switching to cinema, becoming known for her starring role in the family-oriented Nigerian television show I Need to Know. Akindele’s qualifications include an OND in Mass Communication from the Ogun State Polytechnic, she later further her education at University of Lagos to Acquire Her Degree in Law.

CAREER AND LIFE

Her first acting that brought Funke to limelight was the popular television series I NEED TO KNOW, which was a United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) country assisted program aim at keeping the youth and especially the girl child informed on choices and decision related to the relationship,career and every day life challenges been faced by youths. The program seeks to raise awareness on need for effective communications between parents,guardians and their children/wards.

After featuring in I Need to Know TV series between 1998 – 2002, Funke Akindele began acting full time, majoring in the yoruba aspect of Nigerian movie before gradually mixing it up with English Nollywood films.

Her film title “JENIFA” is been regarded as her best work of all time as an actress and movie producer.
Jenifa is a 2008 Nigerian Yoruba comedy-drama film starring Funke Akindele. The film received 4 nominations at the African Movie Academy Awards in 2008. Funke Akindele, the main protagonist of the film, won the African Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in Leading Role for her role as Jenifa.

On May 26, 2012 Funke got married to husband Mr. Adeola Kehinde Oloyede , a year after around July 2013, she got devoiced from him citing vabal abuse and other irreconcilable difference for her separation from Mr. Oloyede (now ex-husband).

In addition came the THE RETURN OF JENIFA and in 2015 came the hilarious Television series JENIFA’S DIARY, hilarious and educative showing on terrestrial Television stations in Nigeria (Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Silverbird Television (STV), African Independent Television (AIT)). Funke Akindele also runs a non-governmental Organisation known as THE JENIFA FOUNDATION, this involves nuturing talent and acquiring vocational skills. Other movies to her credit includes MAAMI, MARRIED BUT LIVING SINGLE, Compound Fool. The movie also stars other A-list Nollywood actors and actresses like Yul Edochie, Kenneth Okonkwo, Queen Nwokoye, Moyo Lawal, Zubby Michaels and a host of others.

Funke Akindele has featured in many Nigerian films both in the Yoruba and English speaking movies.
As of 2015 Funke Akindele was reported to have left the Yoruba movie industry for Nollywood because she charges too much for movie roles which lead to producers not featuring her.
