Gbegiri / Miyan Wake is made with cooked dehulled beans(beans with no coat/hull), that has been mashed and enriched with palm oil, fish(crayfish or smoked fish) and spices. It is most times mixed with ewedu for a “sweeter” consumption

2] Afang Soup
CLICK TO LEARN HOW TO PREPARE Afang soup is a tasty, nutritious Nigerian soup, native to the Efiks/Ibibios (Akwa Ibom & Cross river states). This delicious soup has a slight bitter taste and is usually prepared with a combination of vegetables (Afang leaves and water leaves), assorted seafood/fish, meat and spices . Afang soup is one of the richest and somewhat medicinal vegetable soups of the Efiks/Ibibios in Nigeria. The Igbos’ have a similar soup known as Okazi soup. The only major difference is that a soup thickener is added to Okazi Soup to increase its viscosity(thickness), but afang soup gets its thickness from the bulk of vegetables used in preparing it. 3] Edikang Ikong Soup
CLICK TO LEARN HOW TO PREPARE Edikang Ikong / Edikaikong soup is a nutritious Nigerian soup recipe made with a generous amount of fresh leafy vegetables, dried fish and assorted meat. It is actually one of the native soups of the south-eastern states(Efiks) of Nigeria(Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.) Edikang Ikong used to be referred to as the ”soup of the wealthy”, because of the variety of rich proteins used in making the soup; but today, anyone can enjoy this delicious soup. It is usually cooked with a combination of two different vegetables;Ikong Ubong /Ugwu leaves(fluted pumpkin leaves) and water leaves;but in the absence of fluted pumpkin leaves and water leaves, Spinach and Lamb lettuce/Mache(Valerianella locusta) can be used.
4] Banga Soup
CLICK TO LEARN HOW TO PREPARE Banga Soup is a Nigerian soup that is native to the Southern parts of Nigeria. It is very similar to the Igbo’s Ofe Akwu, but the additional spices used for preparing Banga Soup, makes it differ in taste and aroma.

6] Okazi Soup
CLICK TO SEE HOW TO PREPARE Okazi Soup (Ukazi Soup) is the Igbo version of the Efik’s Afang soup.This delicious Nigerian soup is made up of a mixture of vegetables(Afang /Okazi leaves and water leaves or spinach or lamb lettuce), assorted fish, meat, spices and a soup thickener, which can be either achi, ofor, ukpo orEgusi. Afang soup and Okazi soup are very similar, the only major difference is the thickener that is added to the Okazi soup to give it more viscosity and most people prefer to make Okazi leaves the only vegetable in the soup(without adding any other leaves). The vegetables used for the Okazi/Ukazi soup includes Okazi leaves(called Afang leaves by the Efiks and Ibibio) and water leaves(spinach and lamb lettuce can be used as alternatives for this vegetable).
7] Okra Soup
CLICK TO LEARN HOW TO PREPARE Okra soup is a farm fresh recipe is like a breath of fresh air. (It is the simpler version of Okro Soup and its kiddies favourite.) Delicious soup popular in several parts of the world. It is also a popular Nigerian Soup and known as Ofe Okwuru (Igbo), Obe Ila (Yoruba ), Miyan Kubewa in Hausa language. Some folks love their okra soup chunky, while others want it smooth, but all that really matters is that the soup comes out tasty and delicious. Okra soup is very easy to prepare and you don’t need to break the bank or have any cooking skills to make a delicious sizzling pot of okra soup. Below you’ll see how easy it is to make this soup. CLICK TO LEARN HOW TO PREPARE This soup is popular amongst the people from Etsako in Edo. In their language it is called Omisagwe. It is also similar to Miyan Taushe a delicacy from Northern Nigeria. Its Asian relative to a little extent (the only commonality – peanut paste) is Satay Sauce. Groundnut soup is a perfect blend of sweet and savoury. If you are a getting bored of the everyday Vegetable soup or Egusi, this soup will be a lovely change you and your family will enjoy. Our vegetable soups can be a little overwhelming for a non Nigerian, so if you are trying to introduce him or her to Nigerian soups, this is a great place to start, as the main ingredient is familiar.
SEE HOW TO PREPARE HERE Efo Riro is a rich vegetable soup that is native to the Yorubas of Western Nigeria. The vegetables that can be used to cook this soup are water leaves and pumpkin leaves. If these are not readily available where you live, frozen spinach is a very good substitute. If you cannot find the ingredients to cook Edikang Ikong soup where you live, Efo Riro is a very good substitute. If you want the authentic Efo Riro, you should add tomatoes to yours but I don’t like tomatoes in any soup that I’ll use to eat eba, semolina, pounded yam and other fufu recipes. Just add enough tomatoes to make the soup deep red.
10] Ogbono Soup
CLICK TO LEARN HOW TO PREPARE Ogbono soup is a Nigerian dish made with ground ogbono seeds, with considerable local variation. The ground ogbono seeds are used as a thickener, and give the soup a black coloration. Besides seeds, water and palm oil, it typically contains meat, seasonings such as chili pepper, leaf vegetables and other vegetables. Typical leaf vegetables include bitterleaf and celosia. Typical other vegetables include tomatoes and okra. Typical seasonings include chiles, onions, and iru (fermented locust beans). Typical meats include beef, goat, fish, chicken, bush meat, shrimp, or crayfish. It can be eaten with fufu, pounded yam, or with rice. In other countries the soup may be available in packaged prepared form in some markets that specialize in Western African foods. Ogbono soup has a mucilaginous (slimy) texture, similar to okra soup.
