=>Nigerian Army to Increase Personnel Strength to 200,000-ThisDay

The
Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt General Tukur Buratai, has disclosed
that the army will embark on an ambitious expansion programme to
address the manpower needs of the force to respond appropriately to
contemporary threats to national security.

To
this effect, Buratai said the army planned to increase its personnel
strength from its present 100,000 to slightly above 200,000 in the next
eight years.
The
COAS, while delivering a lecture titled: ‘Nigerian Army: Challenges
and Future Perspectives,’  at the National Defence College (NDC),
Abuja, added that 12,000 personnel would be recruited in 2016 alone to
fill the vacancies created as a result of the new establishments in the
army.
He
explained that the army’s expansion programme was aimed at boosting
its response capacity while stressing that its capabilities to
effectively deal with its present challenges were however not in doubt.
According
to him, the contemporary national security needs and Nigeria’s
territorial size require more than what the army presently have in
terms of personnel strength.
Buratai
noted that the citing of the Special Forces Training Centre in Buni
Yadi in Yobe State, which is one of the theatres of the Boko Haram war,
was an indication of the army’s determination to end insurgency.
In
his lecture, Buratai identified Nigeria’s weak industrial base, the
effect of climate change on the environment and Nigeria’s porous borders
as some of the factors fuelling armed conflict in Nigeria.
The army chief said the force would establish a new division in Borno State.
He
said the establishment of the 8 Division, Nigerian Army,  located in
the northern part of Borno State,  was part of strategic plan by the
army to boost military operations against terrorists particularly in
areas around the Lake Chad Basin.
The
Nigerian army under the then COAS,  Lt-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika (rtd),
in August 2013, established the 7 Infantry Division in Maiduguri to
boost the military’s counter-insurgency operation in the North-east.
Even
though detail of the new establishment was not disclosed, Buratai said
the new division would soon become fully operational with logistics
and manpower deployments.
The
army chief also disclosed that plans were underway to establish
another division to be known as the 6 Division, Nigerian Army,  with
Headquarters in yet to be identified location in the South-south region
of the country.
According
to him, “The establishment of the new divisions is part of a strategic
plan to improve on the Nigerian army’s operational capabilities in the
face of emerging threats to national security.”Buratai noted that the
establishment of the additional formations would bring the number of
divisions in the Nigerian army to eight.

A pastor identified only as Victor, has reportedly fled after being caught pants down with another man’s wife in Lagos.
According
to a PM News report, the pastor sneaked into a man’s house to have
carnal knowledge of the wife before he was caught pants down in Ejigbo
area of Lagos state.
Reportedly he had already pulled off his
trousers but had to run out wearing only his underwear when the
husband, identified as Vitalis Okere, barged into his home.
The
pastor, it was revealed, had been repeatedly going into the man’s
apartment and sleeping the woman, identified as Chidinma, for several
months.
Okere, who is a security guard and spends much of his time
at work, did not know about the affair until he was informed by his
11-year old daughter.
The man would leave home in the afternoon
to return the following morning and when he had left the house, the
randy pastor would take over when their five children had gone to
school.
The pair would continue with the act pretending they were
praying, while the children were locked outside when they returned from
school.
The eldest daughter was said to have informed their
father of the incident and on the day nemesis caught up with the
adulterous pair, Okere pretended that he was going to work and would
return the next day and the pastor came as usual, expecting to carry
out his practice.
But, the pair were stunned when Okore returned
unannounced, met his children outside while the pastor and Chidinma
locked themselves inside.
The man asked the wife to open the door
but when it was taking too long for her to do this, he forcefully
opened the door and Victor rushed out in his pants, leaving behind his
pair of trousers and soutane in the room.
The woman reportedly
denied the allegations when her husband confronted her as she claimed
that they were just praying when he arrived.

=>CBN bans use of dollars for overseas fees, medical trips
– ChannelsTV

Reports have it that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has placed a ban on the use of dollar to pay for overseas school fees.

Godwin Emefiele, CBN governor

According to Boason Omofaye, the head of business news at Channels television, who made this assertion this morning, overseas school fees and medical tourism have been placed on CBN’s foreign exchange prohibitive list.
By this directive, Nigerians who may need to go outside the country for education purpose or health care will have to get the foreign currency from the parallel market to carry out their engagements.
This reason for this new development could not be ascertained but it may not be unconnected to the weakening state of the Nigerian currency against the dollar on the parallel market.
Only yesterday, experts from all walks of life assembled at a business colloquium to debate if it is imperative to devaluate the naira.
The colloquium, facilitated by The Cable, an online newspaper, took place at the civic centre, Lagos.
Titled “Naira On Trial: To devaluate or Not?” had business tycoons, professionals, analysts, among others in attendance.
The keynote speakers took turns to share their insights on the topic focusing on the merits and demerits of devaluating Naira.

Tears flowed freely inside the Ekiti State Judiciary premises on Friday as a Chief Magistrate’s Court remanded 16 students of Afe Babalola University (ABUAD), Ado Ekiti in prison custody for their roles in the mayhem that rocked the institution last Sunday.
They are being prosecuted for attempted robbery, arson and burglary allegedly committed during the riot that occurred on the campus of the private university.
They were accused of attempting to rob a branch of Wema Bank located inside the campus, setting houses of ABUAD security staff members ablaze and burglary of a boutique belonging to the wife of the university’s founder, Mrs. Modupe Babalola.
Parents of the remanded students broke down and wept profusely as their children were being marched into a Toyota pick-up van belonging to the state command of the Nigeria Prisons Service (NPS) heading for the Federal Prisons, Ado Ekiti.
The affected students are to remain in prison custody pending an advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

=> REVEALED: Possible locations of Chibok girls identified by the Nigerian Air Force-Nigerianeye

Possible locations of the abducted Chibok school girls may have been identified by the Nigerian Air Force ,according to indications last night.
The Director of Public Relations of the Air Force, Group Captain Ayodele Famuyiwa, told Channels Television that the force has therefore abstained from attacking the identified areas to avoid hitting the girls.
The latest aerial bombardment of Sambisa forest,Famuyiwa said, had been aimed at the logistics base of the Boko Haram sect and not areas where the Chibok girls could be located.
He said:“We have no fears that the girls are not there because hat particular location has been under surveillance for quite a while and we suspected maybe it’s a kind of ammunition depot or maybe a workshop that they are using as their logistics place.
“Once you take off the logistics base, of course you gradually weaken the resolve of the enemy to be able to prosecute any campaign.”
Group Captain Famuyiwa said the military is deploying the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) to maximum use in its battle with Boko Haram because it is cheaper to run and reduces lives.
The UAVs,he said : “have the capability to be airborne for up to eleven hours and they are quite cheap to maintain. So, we have been able to employ the UAV to a great extent to carry out reconnaissance and surveillance basically for intelligence gathering on the activities of the Boko Haram.”
He said that the UAVs have also helped the Air Force to understand the terrorists’ pattern of movement and “how to be able to counter them should they want to strike or spring any surprise”.
The girls were abducted from the Government Girls Secondary School,Chibok,Borno State.
Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo said last week that the girls may never be found again.
